Caesars Reveals Plans to Open a Temporary Casino by July Next Year

caesars reveals plans to open a temporary casino by july next yearCaesars Virginia is one of the four commercial casinos currently being constructed in Danville, Virginia. The head of the development of the regional casino on Virginia’s Southside, Caesars Entertainment, stated recently that it intends to start running a temporary gaming facility on the Schoolfield site next July. Danville is one of five cities deemed qualified to consider a casino project under the 2020 gaming bill passed by the state. During the November election that year, local voters approved the resort submission of Caesars’ casino.

Caesars is in the process of preparing the former Dan River Mills textile property for development. The gaming giant based in Las Vegas will be dismantling several former manufacturing warehouses and buildings on a property of roughly 85 acres. Caesars Virginia intends to incorporate and retain the “Three Sisters” smokestacks in the final casino resort as a reference to the heritage of the site, which has been the economic signature of the Danville region for several decades until the turn of the century.

Temporary Casino Scheduled for July 2023

As reported some weeks ago, Caesars Virginia will follow Hard Rock Bristol’s steps by providing a temporary casino facility while the full-scale resort is under development. Casinos under construction are allowed by the Virginia Lottery Board to provide temporary gaming spaces, according to the state’s 2020 gaming bill, as long as the temporary space is established in the same location where the permanent casino will be situated. This past July, Hard Rock Bristol made history by becoming Virginia’s first legal casino.

The construction of Caesars Virginia will cost Caesars about $650 million. A casino floor featuring 1,300 slot machines, 24 electronic table games, 85 table games, a Caesars Sportsbook, and a World Series of Poker Room will be available at the resort. A 2,500-seat theatre, a 300-room hotel, and 40,000 square feet of convention space will also be included in Caesars Virginia. The resort’s construction will continue until next year. The casino company is targeting the grand opening of the complete destination by 2024.

Caesars Virginia intends to open a temporary casino by July next year. Caesars announced that work is in progress on the temporary casino in Danville. The temporary gaming spaces would allow casinos to begin establishing their customer bases by onboarding players to their reward programs. They will also provide a more instant tax stream and generation of jobs for the local towns they are built to support.

Temporary Casino May Benefit Regional Hotels

Visitors to Caesars’ temporary casino in Danville are expected to come from northern North Carolina and the southern part of Virginia. Danville is about 60 miles north of Raleigh, 50 miles north of Durham, and 40 miles from Greensboro. It is also just about 50 miles from Winston-Salem.

Because Caesars’ Danville hotel will not be completed when its temporary casino opens its doors next summer, regional hotels are expected to benefit from the inflow of visitors. When Caesars Danville is finished, the temporary gaming venue will be repurposed.
