The state of Kansas has reported its latest earnings from sports betting activities, revealing interesting findings for those following the vertical’s progression. In March 2024, the total amount wagered by sports bettors was $252.9 million.

A Closer Look at Kansas Betting Figures

For those interested in how this stacks up against previous months, Kansas bettors have typically wagered slightly more than this amount, but it comes close to usual monthly wagers.

Compared to previous years, the figure has gone up, which is also promising news for those in the industry. March 2023 saw wager amounts add up to $197 million total, which represents a 28.4% increase year-on-year.

The states biggest betting month on record since sports betting launched in Kansas, has been November 2022, where sports fans wagered $260.9 million. Year-to-end data indicates that from March 2023 to March 2024, bettors have spent $1.86 billion in the state.

Online and Offline Betting Amounts

In March 2024, records indicate that the majority of the $252.9 million total was bet online, for a figure out $243.2 million. That comes as no great surprise, since the introduction of legal sports betting has come along with legal online betting platforms, which prove vastly more popular than in-person kiosks for most of the country.

Kansas’s numbers align with data from all over the world which shows online sports betting continues to grow at a phenomenal rate. However, a significant sum was bet offline, adding up to $9.7 million. Kansas has several retail outlets available for fans that prefer the in-person experience.

Revenue from Sports Betting in Kansas

Of course, this is only a look at the amount wagered in Kansas. Revenue is another matter. The total revenue for sports betting in March 2024 was just above $7 million. Unfortunately, this was a 22% drop from March 2023, despite the higher wager amounts overall. It is, however, an increase on February’s figures.

Another significant data point is that this revenue came entirely from online sales. Brick-and-mortar sales generated zero revenue in March.

All in all, the state also benefited from revenue via its tax earnings. It took away about $700,000 in tax during the month of March.

Kansas Operators Going Strong

The Kansas operators to look out for currently are DraftKings and Boot Hill. They are by far at the forefront of sportsbook offerings in the state currently. They certainly lead the online market for now, and their partnership represents about 50% of March’s revenue figure.

FanDuel, partnering with Kansas Star, is the second in line for March earnings, bringing in about $2.2 million online. Caesar’s, which partners with Kansas Crossing, is the only other pairing that generated revenue during this particular month.

The other operator partnerships that took in online bets did not generate revenue. In fact, their wager takes were higher than that of Caesar’s. This is a phenomenon that will surely be a point for the companies to analyze and make adjustments over, for the coming months.
