A few days ago PokerGo’s announced that Tom Dwan and Phil Hellmuth will face off in the Round 4 of High Stakes Duel III. This has created quite an excitement among their fans. The match is scheduled to come up this May and the stakes are much higher than ever before.

Slated for May 12, the heads-up match will take place in Las Vegas at PokerGo’s Studios. Both players will try to outplay one another for the grand prize of $800,000. Both Dwan and Hellmuth will be putting up $400,000 each.

Dwan’s Chance at Redemption

The two poker icons already had an epic heads-up battle before. In the High Stakes Duel, Hellmuth was 7-0 before Nick Wright, the talk show personality decided not to participate in the second round and “durrr” replaced him. Dwan cracked aces in August 2021 against the “Poker Brat” to win the $100,000 Round 2.

Shortly after, Dwan was challenged by Hellmuth for a rematch. The rematch took place earlier this year and Hellmuth came out victorious. He won in the $200,000 Round 3 clash when his Big Slick got there as opposed to Dwan’s pocket aces.

Dwan had the option to ask for a rematch, which he did exercise, bringing us to the scheduled match for May 12. With $800,000 up for grabs and the price point raised, the two top professionals will step back into the ring again.

The Expectations

Fireworks are expected given the recent history between Dwan and Hellmuth. Both players are expected to be at their best come May 12. Going by the High Stakes Duel show’s norms, the stakes are doubled for every round. It doubles up to the eight rounds which would award prize money of $12,800,000.

Regardless of the winner of Round 4, there will be a Round 5 of the High Stakes Duel III. This is because of the rules. In Round 5, Dwan and Hellmuth will put up $800,000 each and have the chance to play for $1,600,000. The loser from the next match will be granted the right for a rematch. Should the loser decline, a new player will be invited to take their place.

According to PokerGo, if the players win two consecutive matches beginning with Round 4 or they win three consecutive matches before Round 4, they may walk victoriously without a rematch. To be eligible to walk away, Dwan and Hellmuth would need to win two consecutive matches.

Tom Dwan is an American professional poker player aged 35, while Phil Hellmuth, who is also an American, is much older. Hellmuth is 57 years old.

How to Watch the Match

PokerGo.com will air Round 4 of the match between Dwan and Hellmuth on May 12, 8p.m ET. There will be a High Stakes Hype Show hosted by PokerGo the day leading up to the match. Commentary for the match on the day will be provided by PokerGo’s Ali Nejad.
